In the last 3-4 months Mills Buick GMC in Oshawa, ON has pushed their Facebook game to a new level and claimed over 1000 fans. After making the switch to a proper “Fan Page” only a short time ago, Mills flipped the switch from Car Dealer to the Social Media hub in Oshawa, ON (GM capital of Canada).
I’m still a big believer that it is quality over quantity when it comes to Social Media for car dealers. General Manager Jason Craine understands that winning with Facebook doesn’t mean populating his followers news feed with inventory updates and specials. Anyone in Oshawa that owns a car, will find being a Facebook Fan of Mills is a lot of fun….after all that is what Facebook is designed to be.
I have been a fan since day 1 and have really seen this fan page evolve into an interactive monster. They raised $472.00 in a short time for the YMCA which turned into an army of Mills Buick GMC ambassadors spreading the General Motor love. They are not at the MB Motorsports level right now, but this dealer is gaining the love of their community and The Dealer Geek. Facebook pages are started with great enthusiasm and I see a dealer start off guns a blazing. Slow and steady wins the race, after you have added all of your staff and friends that is when the game really begins. Mills has all kinds of interaction on their Fan Page and rarely will you even see them plug their product or specials.
Trust me the average consumer doesn’t like buying a car or dealing with car dealers….we know that. If you expect them to become a “fan” of your dealership do not start jamming your Toronto Sun specials down there throat and expect to get a lot of return.
