Following up on our 3rd sold event in Toronto we decided to take the show to Calgary on October 1st and showcase some of the best speakers on the circut for our Western Canadian dealerships.

Marcus Sheridan to headline again!!

So after hosting 3 of these conferences I haven’t been moved as much by any speaker as I was by Marcus Sheridan.  Okay, that’s a lie.  Theo Fleury was unreal last year but it’s pretty hard to compare those two topics.

I’ve been following Marcus for the last few years and his story about turning his swimming pool company around back in 2008 using content marketing is one of my favourites.  Marcus brought some real interesting perspectives to what he though was wrong in the car business.   If you aren’t reading his Sales Lion blog you need to start.

Basically customers want transparency and our industry is still having a real hard time with this.   However, there are a few good examples out there and Marcus is sure to sprinkle those real life examples into this talk.

Marcus is going to be super high intensity.  Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t spend more than 5 minutes on the stage.  Instead, you can find him wandering around the audience getting right into the thick of things.

I chopped up his Toronto presentation into 5 minutes to give you an idea of what you’re going to experience.

You can the entire speaker line up and agenda on the Dealer Talk website — DealerTalk Website

Laura Madison added to the 2015 Dealer Talk Line-Up

I am super excited to announce that we have added one of my favourite car peeps to the 3rd annual Dealer Talk Conference.

Unfortunately my man Robert Wiesman had a conflict so we were faced with a hole in the speaking line up.   Hopefully we can get Robert up to the great white north in the future.

I don’t remember exactly when or where I discovered Laura Madison.   I’m thinking it was around 2013.

Right away I could tell that she was bringing some new heat to the auto biz that very few had a real grasp on.

Personal Branding is something I’ve always bought into.  Once upon a time when I was working in the dealership,  I often wondered why the local realtors had billboards, websites, and flyers.

Why didn’t this happen in the car business?

Both professions are 100% commission and I know (from experience) that you can use some of these marketing/promotional expenses as a tax deduction.

I thought you were supposed to treat the car business as your own business.  That was always the pitch in the interview right?

A Dealer Geek Makeover: Time to Get Noticed!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a quick note about some exciting news about what’s going on here at

I’ve decided it’s time to give my website a full makeover so your experience while visiting my site will be much more enjoyable

Starting with the completion of this post, the makeover will begin!

For those of you who are geeky about WordPress, I’m switching from the Thesis framework to the Get Noticed! Theme.

If you’re not familiar with Get Noticed! it’s the theme that was originally developed by Michael Hyatt for use on his own website.

You may have also seen the theme in action over at DealerRefresh or on

What is ARK’ing And Why Is Mississauga Dealer Autodome Doing It???

Autodome’s “Random Kindness” program is all kinds of awesome.

After meeting up for lunch with Sach Raja from Autodome and hearing about his latest idea, I asked him if I could share the concept right here on The Dealer Geek.

Being the all around nice guy that Sach is, he said “of course”.

It’s rare that I get this excited about new marketing strategies from car dealers…..

So let’s get into it.

Sach and Chad from Autodome surprise random drivers with an ARK card

Sach and Chad from Autodome surprise random drivers with an ARK card

We’ve all heard the stories of receiving a free coffee at the Tim Horton’s drive thru from the random stranger in the vehicle in front of you.

It’s never happened to me personally, but my cousin worked at Timmie’s when she was a teenager and said it happened all the time. This gesture really took off after the movie Pay It Forward she explains.

As of last week, the crew @ Autodome decided to spread some random love throughout the Greater Toronto Area by surprising random strangers with one of their ARK packages.

I love this kinda stuff. Total grassroots.

What happens?

  • Autodome prints off a bunch of ARK cards with Autodome logo and explanation of what they are doing
  • Attach a Tim Horton’s gift card to the ARK card
  • Tapes on random car window.  Driver’s side preferred
  • Random dude walks up to his car and thinks WTF?
  • Random dude looks around to see if he/she is on camera? They aren’t , Sach and friends are long gone
  • Recipient sits down in driver’s seat and feels something that no free hot dog or inflatable gorilla can produce…..  hope

Save The Date – DealerTalk Conference 2014 on March 4th

I will be blogging about the conference as we get closer

Keep reading the blog as I go behind the scenes of DealerTalk

December is a busy month for “Save The Date” cards. My finance and I are debating on actual printed cards vs. e-cards for our wedding next summer.  Mark my words, I will win that battle…. E-cards all the way.

This blog post is acting as my DealerTalk 2014 save the date.

After a massive success last year with the first inaugural DealerTalk conference put on by me and my friends at Kijiji Autos, we have locked in the date for the second annual event.

Now I do have some really exciting news on speakers I want to share with the Dealer Geek Nation, but I will save that for future entries.   Today, I simply wanted to remind everyone to mark their calendars for March 4th, 2014.

Don’t worry about a March Break conflict like last year.  The date was a lively debate.  After a lot of asking around, and talking to the folks in the industry, the big red sharpie marker came out and magical day was circled.

Where ya doing it?

Location was the one thing the committee agreed on from day 1.  Back to the Four Seasons we go.  Did you know that we actually attempted to throw the first conference at The Sony Centre? Long story.

The hotel is pretty much brand new and in my opinion, is the most modern and swanky spot in all of Toronto.   We surveyed the attendees last year and the location got an A++.  “This place is nicer than some of those conferences in Vegas” – random dealer.

If they are serving those cute little sliders again I’m skipping breakfast.

Canadian Digital Dealer Conference 4 – Interview w/ Brent Wees

Brent Wees to MC the CDDC4

Brent Wees to Host CDDC4

The T.A.D.A. is back this fall with the popular Canadian Digital Dealer Roadshow to take place in September.  CDDC4 will kick off in Ottawa on the 17th and Toronto gets the closing act the next day (September 18th).

I have personally attended two Canadian Digital Dealers and both have been well worth the price of attendance.

Amir Amirrezvani is the speaker I am really looking forward to seeing.  “How to turn your website into a Lead Monster”  is still one of the most popular blog posts here on The Dealer Geek (actual title was Optimize Your Online Presence).  His segment on Website Conversion and Optimization should keep the notepads busy.

My good friend Brent Wees, Client Service Director at Glovebox is going to be hosting the event.  Brent is no stranger to the conference circut in the U.S.A. and Canada and knows how to work the crowd.  Looking forward someone worthwhile to follow on Twitter?  You can’t go wrong with this guy – Brent Wees Twitter Profile.

I asked Brent if he would sit down for a few questions right here on The Dealer Geek at which he said “ya buddy”.

Interview: “What Can We Expect At The Canadian Digital Dealer Conference #4?”

First off Brent, how did you get involved with the Canadian Digital Dealer Events?

We have always a great relationship with the TADA and in 2011 we were approached by Todd Bourgon to help their team visualize the first Canadian Digital Dealer Conference. Todd knew that my partner Barry Hillier and I were attending a lot of conferences south of the border and had also run our share of dealer events for the Ontario Toyota Dealers Association.

Todd also knew that we were working closely with Mississauga Toyota to develop a full digital marketing strategy and asked me to present that case study at the first conference. It was an absolute thrill to be presenting to over 400 dealers at the Canadian International Autoshow. What a venue for the first show!
