Quick backstory..
Hey there! My name is Ryan Thompson and I’m honoured that you’ve stopped by my blog.
This blog is going to tell the tale of what it’s like being the General Manager at a GM dealer in rural Ontario.
My posts will consist of a combination of behind the scenes, vehicle reviews, rants, ideas, car buying tips, and the odd article on what’s happening in and around Alliston.
I started off selling cars at Ernie Dean PONTIAC Buick in 2003. I was 22 years old and instantly fell in love with sales and the car business.
This was the talk of the town 🙂
After working for 5 years in the dealership I moved to the big bad city (Toronto) and dove right into the digital marketing scene.
A few things I did:
- Account Management for Leasebusters working with dealers across the country
- Launched CarChat24 in Canada
- Sold websites for Strathcom Media
My biggest (and most proud) accomplishment was helping with the launch of Kijiji Autos in 2011.
I helped build the business from 300 paying dealers to over 4000!! I was then promoted to Head of Sales and managed a large sales team.
Oh ya, I launched the DealerTalk conference which is still going strong today.

After 9 years living in downtown Toronto I had an opportunity to move back to Alliston and manage Ernie Dean Chevrolet, the place where it started all those years ago.
